TREKKING AND WALKS

If you prefer to explore the island independently you can go to the Tourist Information Centre. In via Catalogna, there is the bus ticket office and the arrival and departure stop for public and private buses that connect Alghero with all the various destinations (see the page dedicated toTransportation). At the Tourist Information office it is possible to ask for the timetable and destinations of all the lines, even on the private ones of Cattogno, which connect the city with the beaches and with the Grottoes of Neptune and Asinara.

NEPTUNE'S CAVES - CAPO CACCIA AND ISOLA PIANA
One of the most spectacular jewels of the entire Mediterranean, the cave is a true geological marvel that attracts over 150,000 visitors a year. It is accessible by sea with the Grotte line which leaves from the port of Alghero every day, or by land through the "Escala del Cabirol" 656 steps cut into the cliff overlooking the sea. This last route, although demanding, is very suggestive and offers an extraordinary view of the sea.
If, on the other hand, you prefer to combine the tour of the bay with the boat, the ticket office is at the port:

PORTO CONTE REGIONAL NATURAL PARK
The area in the locality of Tramariglio (SP 55) is a splendid example of biodiversity which hosts numerous animal and plant species, some of which are native within the typical Mediterranean scrub and extends for 5000 hectares: find out more about the parks of Alghero on Sardegnaturismo.

An evocative promontory overlooking the sea which can be reached via an easy route in the scrubland marked by various paths, with a shelter created in a former military post from the Second World War. Once at the top, the view extends from the bay of Porto Conte to the Capocaccia cliff up to the port of Alghero. The fauna and flora are also interesting.

From Stintino or Porto Torres there are boats to reach the splendid island of Asinara, today a National Park. The island has remained intact and wild as until a few decades ago it was the site of a maximum security prison. The rugged and primordial landscape is populated by rare species of plants and animals such as the famous white donkeys that give the island its name. It is possible to reach the island not only by boats from Porto Torres, but also by booking excursions on a sailing boat. On the island you can book electric bicycles or off-road car tours.
A charming center about an hour south of Alghero where you can walk along the river along the narrow streets between the pastel colored houses. To get there you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the coast overlooking the sea: a small Sardinian Big Sur. To taste the typical local Malvasia wine. To reach Bosa by bus here are the times.
this medieval village, about 70 km north of Alghero, has an ancient castle and a charming historic center full of local craft shops. From the top of the castle and from the Cathedral you can enjoy one of the widest views of the northern coast of Sardinia. Also worth visiting is the prehistoric tomb called "Rock of the elephant" outside the village.
Small mining settlement, now almost completely uninhabited, but extremely suggestive with its large abandoned mine. It has the beautiful beach of Porto Palmas and, hidden among the rocks, the charming little bay called La Frana, rather difficult to reach by land.
